Statue of Liberty
We enjoyed seeing the Statue of Liberty, a gift of France, and climbed the 156 steps to the pedestal's observation deck. That deck is where this picture was taken. Since the World Trade Center attacks, it's as far up as visitors are allowed.
The base of the statue has this poem:
Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
- Emma Lazarus
